Regulatory Energy Transition Accelerator

Flexible, renewable-based systems.

Managing increasing levels of variable renewables.

Flexible grid plays a crucial role to integrate variable renewables by matching demand and supply of electricity, while it can also enable new ways of storing electricity. The main ways through which RETA explores this are digitalisation, battery energy storage systems, and virtual power plants.

RETA works with delivery partners to provide technical assistance or potential solutions to regulators through guidelines and workshops. In particular, the project on digitalisation will continue through technical assistance on request through a knowledge partner, Energy Web’s work. Additionally, RETA has been developing VPP guidelines which will be circulated soon.

Publication: VPP introductory guide for energy regulators

We are pleased to announce the release of our latest guideline, “Virtual Power Plants: An introductory guide for energy regulators”, developed by RETA with the support of Integrate to Zero, and some of our regulators and delivery partners. This guideline offers valuable insights into VPP, especially in decarbonisation, cost savings, and improved reliability and access.

To accompany this release, we will be hosting a webinar on VPP on Wednesday, November 27, from 14:00-15:30 CET, aimed at fostering engaging discussions around the guideline’s key topics. Join us for an insightful session—register here.
