At the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM16) side event, the Regulatory Forum was convened as part of the Empowering Regulators for Accelerated Decarbonisation (ERAD) campaign, together with the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP), a delivery partner of RETA. To support this forum, its second policy brief, “Pathways for Empowering Regulators to Advance Decarbonisation,” was published.
The brief highlights the role of regulators in advancing decarbonisation and sets out six pathways to strengthen regulatory capacity:
- Leverage effective regulation
- Map the institutional landscape
- Identify and prioritise gaps between overarching energy policy and guidance given to regulators
- Tailor strategies to empower regulators and increase alignment with national targets
- Ensure resourcing, stability and political coverage
- Monitor progress
RETA supports the Empowering Regulators for Accelerated Decarbonisation (ERAD) campaign, co-led by the governments of Australia and the UK within CEM. The campaign aims to strengthen collaboration between policymakers and regulators, align regulatory actions with national decarbonisation targets, accelerate solutions for the clean energy transition, and share best practices for effective policy implementation.
